Description: This project is a national research project led by Dalhousie University in partnership with McGill University that aims to address the lack of youth involvement in developing policies related to children’s end-of-life care. The project responds to evidence that children and young people are often excluded from policy discussions on palliative care, medical assistance in dying (MAID), and other end-of-life issues, despite these policies directly affecting them and despite their rights to participate under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The study seeks to partner with young people and their caregivers to generate evidence that will inform equitable, youth-centered policy development for children’s end-of-life care across Canada. The project is co-led by Professors Mary Ellen Macdonald (Dalhousie University) and Franco Carnevale (McGill University).

Funding: The project is supported by Health Canada with approximately $549,000 in funding.
